Michael Miles, communications director for the Atlanta district of the United States Postal Service, said the agency doesn't have any plans to consolidate the White post office into the Cartersville branch.

"We have no plans to consolidate the White post office, I can tell you that for certain," Miles said.

Miles went on to say the USPS currently has no plans to consolidate any neighboring post offices into the Cartersville branch.

He explained that post office consolidations are coming in two forms, one being cosmetic with letter carriers from one post office being moved to another post office. Another is the consolidation of post office stations and branches.

"That's where we're talking about larger areas where there's more than one post office in the city limits," Miles said, "so in some of those cases we've consolidated a few branches in the city of Atlanta, as an example. Again, that's different from coming into a town where there is one post office that serves that town and closing that post office."

He said closing a post office also requires congressional approval.

Rumors of the White post office consolidating have recently been reported on local websites.
