According to GSP Public Information Officer Gordy Wright, the crash occurred about 2:20 a.m. at mile marker 285 northbound.
Two pedestrians were walking along the shoulder of the interstate when a female stepped into the travel lane and was hit by a tractor-trailer. The victim landed in the travel lane of the exit ramp where she was struck by a second vehicle.
The other pedestrian was not injured. Georgia State Patrol has not released the identity of the victim.
In other overnight news, a third Bartow County home in less than a week was destroyed by fire in the early morning hours Friday.
According to Bartow County Fire Department Battalion Chief Brian Keeling, the home on Island Mill Road was lost after midnight, with stations 1, 4, 6 and 9 being dispatched just before 2 a.m.
Because the area is isolated and low-traffic, the home was collapsing in on itself when firefighters arrived. Keeling said the homeowner returned home to find smoke showing and opened the door to find the home engulfed. Firefighters attacked the blaze with a defensive mode of operation, limiting damage and keeping the fire from spreading.
No one was injured, and Keeling said the extent of damage will make determining cause and origin difficult.
The Red Cross was called in to assist the family.
