Playing a demanding game the night before apparently caught up with Woodland on Saturday as the Wildcats fell 62-50 to Lambert.

"We played a tough game against Sequoyah Friday night and we probably were a little leg weary against Lambert," head coach Mike Tobin said. "We also didn't shoot the ball well, either from the field or at the free throw line, and that hurt us.

"We were 8-of-23 from the free throw line against Lambert."

Woodland had lost to the Chiefs, the state's No. 2-ranked team, by a close 52-49 margin on Friday night.

"We played real well, especially against Sequoyah, but it's still another two losses for us," the coach said. "We have to get back started Monday trying to get better."

He said the Wildcats had been in a rhythm shooting prior to the recent snow and ice that closed Bartow schools for a week.

"Of course that's something every one is having to deal with and we just have to work to get better," he added.

Lambert (8-9, 3-4) took a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, then stretched it to 31-23 in time for the break. The third-quarter score was 43-36.

Corey Tobin led the Wildcats against the Longhorns with 12 points; Greg Murphy, 11; Daryel Morris, 6; Adam Tobin, 5; Cameron Mayweather, Isaiah Niblet and Xavier Niblet, 4 each; R.J. Williams and Jacquez McKay, 2 each.

Woodland (10-6, 1-6 in Region 7-AAAA) entertains Rome on Tuesday.

The Chiefs closed to 41-36 and the end of the third quarter and took the lead in the final period, outscoring Woodland 16-8.

Scoring for Woodland were Murphy and Williams, 10 each; Adam Tobin, 8; Chandler Royal, 7; Corey Tobin and Morris, 6 each; and Mayweather, 2.
