William Carl Bahr, Major, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), was born June 21, 1924, in Berea, Ohio, and died peacefully at his home in Marietta at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl William Bahr and Lillian R. Smith; wife Lottie Faye Bearden, formerly of Cartersville; sister Loretta Berg; and niece Gail Berg. He is survived by daughters Lisa F. (Jimmie) Cummings and Linda S. (Richard) Oster, six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and nephew Gene Berg.

William Bahr served his country during WWII as a pilot in the Army Air Corp. Assigned to the 456th B-24 Heavy Bomb Group, 744th Bomb Squadron based in Italy, he completed 33 wartime missions. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, three Air Medals and Theater Ribbon with five Battle Stars. He retired with the rank of Major, Sr. Pilot Grade, from the Air Force Reserves after more than 20 years of service. He was a graduate of Perdue University and retired from Lockheed-Marietta, after 33 years.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.
