Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at the New Hope Baptist Church. The family will receiver friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Funeral Home. Interment will occur Friday, Dec. 10, at the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton.
William Grant Richards Jr. was born Nov. 6, 1947, in Cassville to the late William Grant Richards Sr. and Carrie Bell Knox Richards.
He was educated in the Bartow County School System and served his country in the Marine Corp, where he attained the rank of sergeant, and served in the Vietnam War.
Stateside William served on the Atlanta Police Force for over 31 years. He retired with the rank of Investigator.
"Papa," "Pop," and "Richards," as he was affectionately known, lived a full life. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, whom he held dear to his heart.
He met and married the former Charlie Mae Anderson, July 24, 1970; of this 37-year union, three children were born; Felecia, Terrance, and Valarie.
Williams leaves to cherish his memory, his children; Felecia Yvette Richards (Eric), Terrance Leander Richards (SonJay), and Valarie Latrice Richards; his siblings, Albert Lewis Richards (Loretta), Marvin Samuel Richards (Kim), Donald Lee Richards, and Ester Richards Zachary; his great-aunt,Lucille Jewel; uncle, Eugene Richards, and aunts Carrie Mae Bowden, Dorothy Harris, Louise Hawkins, and Kathleen Washington. Also cherishing his memory will be Kevin, Keith, Tiffany, Michael Alexander, London; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
