As a fireman, Chris Landreau is accustomed to life and death situations. Now, he is in a battle for his own survival and he has found an ally in music.

Rising country star and Newnan native Corbette Jackson was inspired to write a tribute song for Landreau when he learned about the Coweta County firefighter's battle against non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Landreau, a husband and father of two, recently underwent his second round of chemotherapy.

Corbette teamed up with Stokes Nielson of The Lost Trailers to write "Heart Of A Champion" as a fundraiser for Landreau, and what was intended as a benefit has caught fire at radio stations.

Sari Rose of Atlanta's country station KICKS 101.5 FM said, "In all my years at KICKS, I've never seen anything like the reaction to 'Heart Of A Champion.' The requests are through the roof."

Program Director Mark Richards and Music Director Mike Macho at KICKS put the song in daily rotation due to the response it received after a fundraising concert for Landreau. Other stations are adding the song daily and listener reaction is powerful.

"We wrote this song just expecting Chris and his family to hear it, and it's turned into something so much bigger," Jackson said.

Jackson is visiting radio stations to promote the song in the hope that more people will hear the message of survival in its lyrics. On Saturday, area residents will be able to see him perform with his band at Cledus T's in Cartersville. General admission will be $10, and doors will open at 7 p.m. Attendees must be 21 or older.

"Chris told us at the benefit fundraiser that he hoped this song might touch one life," Nielson says, "but, Corbette and I believe that Chris is going to touch millions."

The song is available on iTunes and all profits go directly to the Landreau family, in large part to establish a fund for Landreau's young daughters.
