Woodland competes in Cherokee Invitational

The Woodland High softball team finished in second place this weekend at the Cherokee Invitational Tournament as the team went 3-2 over the two-day event as it prepares to resume conference play on Tuesday.

The Lady Wildcats outhit Creekview, but fell short in their first game Friday as they lost 6-4 due to five errors. Bridgett Hampton had three hits and two RBIs to lead the team.

The second game was much better for Woodland as the team defeated White County by a score of 10-2. Two of the squad’s outfielders, Ashley jordan and Bailey Roberts, each had three hits in the game. Roberts accounted for six of the runs as she had three RBIs and three runs scored. Brooke Rogers and Hampton each had two hits.

Saturday got off to a rough start as the Lady Wildcats lost 8-0 to Harris County due to four errors.

However, Woodland bounced back in its next game with a 15-0 victory over Walton. Hampton had another two hits while Jordan, Sheena Craig, Bailey Guyton and Valerie Glass each had two RBIs.

In the final game, Woodland lost by a score of 8-2 against Woodstock. Keri Cagle drove in both runs for the Wildcats. It was the errors that doomed the team once again. Woodland had four for the game.

Hampton was the top hitter over the weekend as the junior third baseman went 7-for-16.

Woodland will next play Rome in a home game on Tuesday as the team looks to improve to 6-0 in region play.
