Woodland got its bats going early and cruised to an 8-0 victory over Rome in high school softball Thursday.
The victory sends the team into the Cherokee Invitational, which kicks off today, with a two-game win streak.
The Lady Wildcats scored five runs — three in the first and two in the second — and added a pair in the fourth and one in the fifth.
They were led in the first by Lacey Fritz’s two-run shot and an RBI single by Sydney Flowers and in the second by an RBI triple by Bailey Roberts.
Taylor Braselton started things off with a single in the fourth, plating Brooke Rogers.
Rogers pitched the shutout for the Lady Wildcats, surrendering two hits over her five innings of work. She gave up two bases on balls and struck out one.
Woodland’s offense tagged the Lady Wolves for nine hits. Scoring Woodland’s runs were Braselton, Roberts, Flowers, Fritz, Sydney Hodorff, Rogers, Katie Harris and Brandee Godfrey.
