Although the teams are not region foes, the effort was there as both tried to claim a victory their first game back from spring break.
“I was proud of our girls,” Woodland coach Kyle Morgan said. “They had not played in quite awhile and it was pretty warm out here. We had not played in these conditions.
“I was happy we were able to come back and tie it up at halftime and get the go-ahead goal in the second half.”
Roger Lowe, Cartersville coach, said both teams tried hard to win.
“We were beaten by a team that played a lot better than we did,” he said. “They really had the will to win. They got to all the loose balls. They took the game to us. They forced the game on us.”
Lindsey Good scored Woodland’s first goal in the 28th minute with an assist from Destiny Wood, tying the game at 1-all.
Wood scored the go-ahead goal for Woodland in the game’s 44th minute and protected the resulting 2-1 lead the rest of the way.
Wood got an assist in scoring from Kaitlyn Eubanks.
The victory gives the Lady Wildcats a 9-4 overall record. They are 4-3 in Region 5-AAAAA.
Cartersville dropped to 8-4 overall and is 7-3 in Region 5-AAA.
Morgan said the Lady Wildcats were excited about the chance to play Cartersville even though it’s not a region game.
“Hopefully this will bode well as we move into the big stretch of our season next week,” the coach said. “We’ll have three region games and the opportunity to try to play ourselves into the playoffs.”
Woodland, Rome and Villa Rica are positioned currently where one shuld win the final state playoff position next week.

Haley Pittman scored in the seventh minute to give Adairsville a 1-0 lead but the Lady Blue Devils scored twice — in the 11th and 16th minute to take a 2-1 lead.
Adairsville tied the game a second time in the 39th minute when Cassidy Greene scored off a Haley Pittman assist.
