In its season-opening meet, Woodland's girls scored 119 points on the day while finishing ahead of Darlington, 76; Cass, 42; and Paulding County, 5. Earning wins in their respective events for the Lady Wildcats were Idraiah Thompson (100 meters, 200 meters); Aubrey Branch (400); Ashley Barrera (3200); the 4-by-1 and 4-by-4 relay teams; Brianna Brown (high jump); and Lacey Fritz (discus).
The Woodland boys, who scored 93 points, held off Darlington, which had 87, for their victory. Paulding County, 35, and Cass, 33, placed third and fourth, respectively. Leading the way for the Wildcats were event winners C.J. Woods (100, 200); Logan Rempe (3200); Deo Adams (300 hurdles, triple jump); 4-by-1 and 4-by-4 relay teams; Qua Stocks (high jump); and Bryce Marratta (pole vault).
"We started out pretty strong. I feel excited about this season," Woodland boys coach Adrian Steele said. "I'm excited about the invitationals we've set up for ourselves."
Woodland hosts McEachern and Hiram in its next meet, which is slated to begin at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
"Thursday's gonna be a nice meet because we have McEachern," said Steele, noting that the Cobb County school has good sprinters. "It'll be a good test to see how well we can do early in the season."
While both Woodland teams climbed to 2-0 with wins at Saturday's meet in Tunnel Hill, results from the Northwest Whitfield Invitational were not yet available, Steele said.
Below are results from last Thursday's meet, including finishes from Cass, which had four event winners -- three on the girls' side.
