Johnny Kendrick of Johnny’s Grading & Hauling of Rockmart removes and grades dirt with a mini excavator from a ditch being created on West Avenue alongside the CSX railroad tracks near The Daily Tribune News on Monday afternoon. This City of Cartersville Public Works project is being done to relieve flash flood problems that have plagued the area for years. A pipe will be placed under West Avenue and an open ditch will feed into and out of the pipe to drain flood waters. This area, between South Tennessee and South Erwin streets, will be closed from time to time until the project is complete.
