Woodland's Ammons tosses complete-game shutout

Woodland pitcher Ben Ammons threw a shutout Monday to lead the Wildcats to a 6-0 home victory over Rockmart in the teams' second meeting of the season.

The junior allowed four hits and no walks against nine strikeouts in his complete-game effort, while the offense did all of its damage in a six-run third inning.

Bailey Ward led the Wildcats' 10-hit attack with three knocks. Toby Queen picked up two hits. Each drove in a run.

Koby Stansel had a team-high two RBIs.

The win was the third in a row for Woodland, which swept Darlington on Saturday, and improved the Wildcats' record to 6-4. It also avenged a 4-3 loss in the first meeting at Rockmart (3-5).

Woodland will head north for a pair of games over the coming days, facing Sonoraville at 4:30 p.m. today and Bartow County brethren Adairsville at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
