Barbara Jean Smith, 71, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away Wednesday, June 20, 2018, with both her sons by her side.
Barbara was born October 16, 1946, in Swanton, Ohio, daughter of the late Wendell Kreuz and Virginia Langenderfer Kreuz. She graduated Mercy School of Nursing and pursued a lifelong career as an RN in which she took great pleasure in helping others. After graduating from nursing school, Barbara moved to Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where she met her soulmate, Mack Smith. She was a true and faithful servant of the Lord and a proud and active long-time member of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Barbara loved to knit, enjoyed traveling and was dedicated to helping others and made God and family her priorities.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Mack Smith, Jr.; first born son, Lance Edward Smith; a sister, Suzanne Kreuz Schauerte; brothers, Leonard “Butch” Kreuz, and Ken Kreuz.
Survivors include her sons, Brian Smith, Trace Smith; daughter in-law Meg Smith; grandchildren, Lance and Madison Smith; a sister, Eileen Kreuz O’Boyle; brothers, Jim Kreuz and Harry Kreuz; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Juan Anzora officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA at 1:00 p.m.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will include Trace Smith, Brian Smith, Dennis Chandler, Lance Smith, John Kolp, Eric Wietz, Christopher Wietz, Jeff Kreuz, Shannon Kreuz and Shawn Kreuz.
In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial donations may be made in Mrs. Smith's honor to St. Francis of Assisi Church, Building Fund.
