Old Man Winter must be getting an early chuckle about plans made to play local high school sports games during the cold season.

Bartow County basketball, soccer and baseball games all were delayed when winter forced postponement of athletic plans scheduled for Tuesday.

The Excel boys will now play Mount Pisgah today at 6:30 p.m. in the Excel gymnasium.

They had been scheduled to play Tuesday at Christian Heritage. The Eagles (12-13, 6-4 in region) are the No. 3 seed in in the Region 6-A tournament.

The Excel girls, who were to play Walker on Tuesday in their region tournament, will instead play Walker today at 5 p.m. at the Excel gymnasium with the winner advancing. The winner of that game will play Thursday against Fellowship Christian at Christian Heritage.

Fellowship (9-12, 7-3 in region) is the No. 2 seed while Excel is the No. 3 seed. Excel is 12-13 overall and 6-4 in its region.

Another weather-related weather change involves the Cartersville Lady Purple Hurricanes, who now are scheduled to play Heritage, Catoosa on Thursday at 7 p.m. with a state playoff berth on the line.

Cartersville (6-19, 3-11) is the No. 6 seed in the tournament while Heritage (19-5, 11-3) entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed. The tournament schedule for the Cartersville boys has not been affected by the weather as the Canes will still play Friday in the Region 7-AAAA tournament semifinals at Southeast Whitfield with tip-off scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

Three soccer games scheduled to be played on Tuesday were all put on hold by the inclement weather. Those games included the Adairsville Tigers at Calhoun; Cambridge at Woodland; and Cass at Paulding County.

New dates and times for those games were not available Tuesday night.

Also, plans for a varsity baseball scrimmage between the Adairsville Tigers and the Woodland Wildcats have been changed.

Plans are for the scrimmage to be played on Friday at Woodland. The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown at 5:30 p.m.
