The Woodland and Adairsville High volleyball teams each lost a pair of matches Thursday.
Despite the losses, both teams showed better in their second matches than in their first.
Adairsville lost to Gilmer 25-16 and 25-20 before facing off against Chattooga and winning the first set 25-22, but dropping the next two by scores of 26-24 and 15-2.
Woodland, meanwhile, did not have a strong showing against Allatoona, losing 25-4 and 25-11. In the second match, although it wasn’t enough to earn a win, the Lady Wildcats played much better in the second set against Class 7A McEachern, losing by scores of 25-11 and 25-22.
"We played with low energy and without focus almost the entire night. We were finally able to find some rhythm and some effort and focus in the second set against McEachern, but unfortunately it was too little, too late,” Woodland head coach David Condon said. "We have a really bad habit of starting off sluggishly and trying to fight our way back into the match the season, particularly against better teams, and tonight, they were both really good teams, particularly Allatoona. It's something that we're going to have to work harder on in practice.”
Against McEachern, Lauren Morris had three aces, 15 assists and two digs for Woodland, while Sydney Molinaro had nine kills, seven digs and an ace. Grace Webb added six kills, three blocks and an assist.
