The Wire2Wire Invitational at Dellinger Park Saturday morning featured both the Cass and Cartersville cross country teams.
West Forsyth stole the show with a perfect score in the girls race and a nearly perfect score in the boys race, but local runners had strong showings as well.
The eighth-ranked team in Class 4A, according to MileSplit, the Cartersville boys finished second out of five teams.
Cartersville's Bill Archer broke up what would have been a perfect score for West Forsyth, finishing fifth with a time of 17:19. Archer was followed by Alex Rios in eighth with a time of 17:46.
Then came a pack of Canes occupying the 10-14 spots — Jacob Busek at 18:45, Levi Booth at 18:48, Colin McCann at 18:49, Harrison Banks at 18:49 and Banks Wilson at 18:57.
The top runner for the Cass boys was Prem Patel, who placed 15th overall out of 35 runners with a time of 19:09. Bryce Kresho was Cass' next top runner, finishing 17th with a time of 20:11.
Logan Van Stinj in 31st, Craigory Chatman in 33rd and Brenden Waters in 35th rounded out the Colonels' lineup.
The Cartersville girls, meanwhile, placed third out of four teams.
Vanna Beach paced the Lady Canes in 11th with a time of 23:22, followed by Alice Terry in 14th at 23:52, Trista Kelly in 15th at 23:56, Jaxiry Betancourt in 17th at 24:08, Trinity Atkins in 22nd at 24:53 and Metzli Munoz in 23rd at 24:54.
While the Lady Colonels did not have enough runners to qualify as a team, two individuals did compete. Olivia Flynn was the top Cass runner in 13th with a time of 23:38. Stassija Banks placed 31st at 37:49.
