Canes place 6th at Rome Invitational

The Cartersville High track & field team had its second meet of the season Saturday against nine other teams at the Rome Invitational.

Both the girls and boys teams placed sixth, and there were some standout performances as the teams round into form.

The only Cane to win an event was Keonte Jackson in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 2 inches.

Several other Canes scored points, including Trey Creamer’s second place in the long jump and Jacob Busek’s third in the 3200-meter run.

Busek and Andy Sims each scored in both of their events, the 1600 and 3200.

Creamer, meanwhile, finished in the top seven in three events.

For the girls, London Shaw was near the top of the leaderboard in the throws, placing second in the discus and third in the shot put.

Besides Shaw, several Lady Canes scored in multiple events.

Demaya Bryan held down the sprints; Abby Forristall, Vanna Beach and Kayla Carpenter transferred their cross country success into a strong showing in the distance races, and Grace Cochran contributed in the 400 and the long jump.
