The Cartersville tennis team barely dropped a game during Tuesday's comprehensive Region 5-AAAA wins over Troup County on Tuesday at home.
Both boys and girls won by identical 5-0 scores, with five total matches finishing at 6-0, 6-0. On the boys side, only one set saw the Tigers win a game as Cartersville's Line 1, Will Allen, produced a 6-0, 6-2 victory.
Luke Kotteman, Griffin Shaw, the combination of Nate McDonald and Luke Gambill, and the pairing of John Blackhall and Jackson Cline all eased to 6-0, 6-0 triumphs.
For the girls, Lin 1's Ashley Popham cruised 6-0, 6-1; Line 2's Emily Bush rolled 6-0, 6-0; and Line 3's Chloe Satterfield triumphed 6-4, 6-2. The Line 1 doubles team of Lydia Wiedetz and Alice Terry won by a 6-1, 6-0 score and the pairing of Mia Shaw and Mason Cline were victorious by a 6-1, 6-2 margin.
"Great effort today," Cartersville coach Brett Tolbert said via text message. "Both teams improved on specific aspects of their game as we prepare for the region tournament."
Central-Carroll will visit Cartersville on Thursday in another region matchup.
Adairsville swept by Murray County
The Adairsville tennis team ran into a formidable foe on the road Tuesday, as the Tigers failed to win a single match at Murray County.
Adairsville's Line 3 boys player, Jack Bates forced a third set in his match, but that was as close as the Tigers came to a win. A couple of other boys matches were competitive with Line 2's Cameron O'Neal falling 6-3, 6-4 and both doubles teams winning at least one game in each set.
On the girls side, only singles lines 2 and 3 were particularly close with Madison Camp and Megan Smith falling 6-3, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2, respectively.
The Adairsville girls dropped to 3-3 overall and 2-2 in Region 6-AAA, while the boys fell to 2-4 and 1-3, respectively. The Tigers will look to bounce back against Coahulla Creek on Thursday at home.
