Debris by railroad leads to series of fires around Porter Street

CFD responds to CSX fire

Firefighters responded to a blaze along the CSX railroad line near the vicinity of Porter Street and North Avenue late Friday afternoon.

Cartersville Fire Department Battalion Chief Hagen Champion said firefighters arrived on the scene around 6:45 p.m.

"There's probably about a 40 foot by 200 foot/300 foot long area that we've had small, incipient fires that have grew and gotten into some tires and other debris on the side of the tracks," he said.

No injuries were reported. 

Champion said the cause of the fire is unknown. Arson is not suspected at this point, but the fire remains under investigation.
