Colonel swimming wins home tri-meet

Cass swept a home swimming tri-meet Tuesday, beating Southeast Whitfield and Dawson County.

The Colonels won the girls meet, the boys meet and, naturally, the combined scores.

The girls were the more dominant, beating Southeast Whitfield 109-66.

The Lady Colonels had different swimmers win each of the events, showing good depth.

Charlotte Sturgeon took the 50-yard freestyle, Kaya Smith won the 100-yard free, and Tatiana Getz took the 500-yard free. Macy Wright won the 100-yard backstroke.

The team of Getz, Hannah Johnson, Smith and Morgan Hughes won the 200-yard medley relay, and Getz, Wright, Anna Padgett and Hughes won the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Getz, Padgett, Hughes and Smith wrapped up the meet with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The boys meet was a little closer, as the Colonels edged Southeast Whitfield 89-78.

Again, it was thanks to a balanced effort.

Noah Arnold won the 200-yard freestyle, Griffin Howard took the 50-yard free, and Eli Wilhoit won the 100-yard free.

That was it for the individual wins, but Solon Harris, Arnold, Wilhoit and Howard won the 200-yard medley relay, and Howard, Emanuel Vega, Blake Evans and Wilhoit won the 200-yard freestyle relay.
