Agents from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation executed search warrants at White Police Department and White City Hall on Thursday morning.“We were getting ready to hold a safety meeting,” White City Manager Jane Richards said. “There was a bunch of them — two were from the FBI — and they showed us a search warrant and began going through files. They took files with information about fines and tickets, and they took some computers, too. We didn’t know a thing about it until they showed up.”Mayor Chris Allen said he was made aware of the search, which he said was “to obtain all the police department records.”“We are in cooperation with them in any way we can,” he said.A press release issued by the GBI said the raid was part of an ongoing public corruption investigation that was initiated in October by the District Attorney’s office regarding allegations of extortion.District Attorney Rosemary Greene declined to comment.“I can’t at this time. It’s still an ongoing investigation,” she said.Richards said the White City Council would meet tonight to discuss the ramifications.
