Mr. John Joseph Alise, Sr., age 79, of LaGrange, passed away on April 2, 2018 at the Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Mr. Alise was born on August 11, 1938 in Madison, New Jersey to the late Moses Alise and Connie Russo Alise. Upon graduation from Tennessee Wesleyan College, he was a Math Teacher and Coach at Cartersville High School, LaGrange High School and Troup County High School. At these schools he served in various capacities in the football, baseball and wrestling programs. Later in life, he served as a Regional Manager for National Life Insurance and was involved in other business endeavors. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church and an active member of the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class for 49 years. Mr. Alise also volunteered for Habitat Restore.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ruth Overton Alise; children, Terri Buchanan (Jeff), Joey Alise (Missy), Laura Jeter (Buzz) and Kim Sims (Richard); grandchildren, Heather Huddleston (Ben), David Buchanan (Michelle), Mary Anna Brown (Kyle), Joseph Alise, Caroline Lindsey, Amanda Jeter, Alise Jeter, Ashley Hancock (Tyler), Anna Jeter, Anslee Sims, Tori Sims and Andy Sims; great grandchildren, Rook Huddleston and Rhett Huddleston; brother, James “Jim” Alise (Diane);numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 12:30 pm at the Restlawn Memory Gardens. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, April 5, at 2:00 pm at the LaGrange First United Methodist Church with Rev. Andy Buchanan officiating. A reception will follow the memorial service at the church. Family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at the Higgins LaGrange Chapel.
