Man kidnapped, killed after Emerson home invasion

An Emerson man was killed Sunday after a home invasion and shooting.Herbert Perkinson was kidnapped during an armed robbery at his home in the 100 block of Eleventh Street in Emerson about 9 a.m. An hour later, Perkinson, 49, was found alongside Interstate 75 in Cherokee County by a passerby who called 911.He was transported to Kennestone Hospital where he was pronounced dead.Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley on Sunday cautioned residents that the incident appeared isolated and Perkinson likely knew his assailant. He stood by the statement Monday.“Nothing has changed at this point,” he said. “Any new news out there is speculation.”He declined to comment on a possible motive for the murder.The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist EPD and Cherokee County investigators.Bradley said he would meet with the GBI today and additional information will be released as it becomes available.An autopsy will be scheduled and performed by the GBI Medical Examiner’s Office in Decatur.
