Maurice B. Thompson, age 102, passed away July 21, 2018, at Seasons Hospice in Cumming, Georgia.
Born June 7, 1916, at Rabun Gap, Georgia, to Lon L. and Mary Pitts Thompson, he served overseas with the Army Air Corps during World War II, from which he returned on the Queen Mary and was honorably discharged after four years of service.
He earned a Masters of Education degree at the University of Georgia after first attending Berry College. He was a public school principal early in his career, followed by several years as a vocational rehabilitation counselor. He later moved to an administrative position at the Georgia Department of Education, from which he retired.
As a teenager in Tow Creek, Tennessee, Maurice professed his faith and was baptized in the local Baptist Church. He maintained his active status as a Baptist for the remainder of his life, with membership at the time of his death at First Baptist Church Conyers.
He is preceded in death by his dear wife, Grace Lipscomb Thompson, to whom he was married for 57 years. Together, they enjoyed gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his daughter Malinda Pennington and her husband, Randy; son M. Bryan (Tom) Thompson and his wife, Beth; two granddaughters: Maranda Curl and husband Brent and Marissa Stafford and husband Ben; seven great-grandchildren: Abi, Eli, Charli, Benji, & Luci Curl and Caleb & Lydia Stafford.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Wofford’s Crossroads Baptist Church, 222 Old Tennessee Hwy., White, Georgia 30184, with the Rev. Doug Cox officiating.
