Monday is the deadline to register to vote in the presidential preference primary on March 1.
“The presidential candidates will be on the ballot in March and everybody else will be on the ballot in May — all the other partisan offices,” Bartow County Elections Supervisor Joseph Kirk said. “There will be a nonpartisan general election in May as well for nonpartisan judicial candidates. ... But you won’t see presidential candidates on the ballot after March until November.“I encourage everyone to verify their registration before the deadline, especially if you haven’t voted in a year or two. Things change. ... After a certain period of time, we have to purge the lists for people that aren’t active. And even that has varying time frames depending on the situation. But in many cases in presidential years, we’ll have people come in who are just sure they’re registered to vote but haven’t voted in a while and they’ve been purged off the list.”To check one’s registration status or to obtain information about registering to vote, area residents can visit the Secretary of State’s website, http://sos.ga.gov or contact the Bartow County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office, 1300 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville, at 770-387-5098.According to http://www.bartowga.org/departments/elections, “If this is the first time you have registered to vote in the State of Georgia you must include a copy of an approved form of identification with your Voter Registration Application.
