Back-to-back doubles by Adairsville’s Hayden Morrow and Taylor Whitley proved to be the difference in Wednesday’s win at Darlington as the Tigers broke a tie in the seventh inning to beat Darlington 5-3.
Sam Seaman walked, Landon Howren sacrificed him over and Lane Griffith singled to start the seventh inning for the visiting Tigers. Morrow then hit his double to center field for what would become the game-winning hit. Whitley then notched another double to right-center field for an insurance run.
From there, Kyler Pelfrey pitched his third shutout inning in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the win and move Adairsville to 2-0 on the season.
Earlier in the game, the Tigers scored two runs in the top of the first inning thanks to leadoff walks by Seaman and Howren. After two outs, Whitley, Drake Arp and Pelfrey walked in the next three at bats to bring in Seaman and Howren.
Darlington cut into the lead in the bottom of the first with a solo home run by Jay Shadday. Darlington then tied the score in the fourth when four walks made the score 2-2.
The two teams traded runs in the fifth. The Tigers scored their run when Seaman led off the inning with a single, stole second base and scored on a Griffith RBI single.
Seaman went 1-for-2 in the game with two walks and three runs scored. Griffith went 2-for-4 and Morrow went 2-for-3.
Adairsville will look to remain unbeaten when it takes on North Cobb Saturday in the home opener.
