Mr. Roy Taft Silvers, age 79, of Kingston, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a 19-year battle with Parkinson’s and Lewy Body.
He was born February 2, 1939, to Howard Taft Silvers, Sr., and Eldie Boswell Silvers. He was one of 13 children. Roy T. loved his family and community. He served many years with the Kingston Volunteer Fire Department and also as Mayor of City of Kingston. He retired from Union Carbide and then enjoyed his part-time employment at Hobby Lobby and the Booth Western Art Museum. His greatest joy was his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed attending gospel singings and was always proud to hear his son sing with ‘Fireproof.”
He leaves behind his wife of 53 years, Mary Nell Pressley Silvers; sons, Brandy Silvers (Roland “Ro Ro”), Payton Silvers (Dawn his “little girl”); grandchildren, Ryan and Matthew Silvers the joy of his life. Also his siblings, Harold (Sharon) Silvers, Helen Carson, George (Linda) Silvers, Mae Silvers, Larry (Barbara) Silvers, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gladys Eloise, Howard Taft JR, Hazel, Clyde, Leon, Jerry “Fouts," and Travis.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 1:00 pm at Kingston United Methodist Church with Reverends Leon Smith, Tommy Harris, and Rev. Kenneth Stepp officiating. The body will lie in state at the church from 12 Noon until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Kingston Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the members of Fireproof: Kenneth Stepp, Larry Gentry, Steve Jones, and Steve Warren, along with Billy Archer, Brian Silvers, Steve Harr, Jonathon Pressley, and Jacob Pressley. Honorary pallbearers will be Bennit Roberson, Larry Strickland, David Grogan, and Billy John Wheeler.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at the Barton Funeral Home.
The family wishes to thank the BCFD Honor Guard and the staff of Amedysis Hospice, who gave us wonderful care, especially his special nurse Autumn “Rachel."
