Sally Clay Howard Barrett, 86, passed away May 25, 2018. She was born November 19, 1931 to Russell and Laurene Clay Collins Howard in Georgetown, Kentucky.
Mrs. Barrett was a member of the First Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and an Elder and was an Honorary Lifelong Member of Presbyterian Women. She was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority. Sally was a homemaker and taught kindergarten at First Presbyterian a number of years. She was involved in many organizations and programs. Some include: Cartersville Service League where she served as member and former president, Daughters of the American Revolution, Meals on Wheels, Clothes Closet, Cartersville Music Club and Atlanta Lawn Tennis Association. She was a charter member of the Cartersville Country Club. Sally enjoyed playing tennis, reading, traveling and gardening. She loved her animal companions and they brought her much joy. Even after losing her eyesight many years ago, Sally maintained a contagious optimism and embraced life until the very end, staying in contact with friends and family.
Sally is preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert C. Barrett, grandson Matt McAfee and an infant granddaughter.
Survivors include her children Laurie McAfee, Patti and Bruce Taylor, Sally Clay and Mark Smith, and Curt Barrett, grandchildren: Rose and Brant Jones, Lloyd and Melina Taylor, Scott and Claire Taylor, Lauren and Jonathan Pressley, Kate and John Clayton, Hannah and Jon Clabough, Grace and Ric Stewart, and Erin Smith, eighteen great-grandchildren: Ben, Bonnie, Charlotte, Harris, Nate, Anna, Colt, Shep, Hala, Abigail, Mae, Marshall, Max, Weldon, Adeline, Birdie, Ellen, and Lily. Sally’s extended family includes Barry Fioranelli, Glenda Cooley, Jody Messer, Sybol Morris, Sherry Rogers, Stephanie Reed, Molly Collins, Phillip Dodson, Heather, Robert, Katelyn, Mason, and Tyler McAfee, Molly, Chris, Mack, and Grant Rabenold.
Visitation for Mrs. Barrett will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, May 28, 2018, at First Presbyterian Church in Cartersville with a service to follow at 11:00 am in the sanctuary. Burial will be at Euharlee Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
