Shirley Mae LaViolette


Mrs. Shirley Mae LaViolette, age 82, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 17, 2019, at Assured Hospice Care.  

Shirley was born on March 4, 1937, in Rome, Georgia, to the late Mrs. Eura and Mr. Arthur Gibson.

Shirley grew up in and around Cartersville, and moved to Detroit, Michigan, where she spent 27 years before eventually moving back to Cartersville in 1979. She loved traveling, her flower garden, and her church family. She was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church for over fifteen years, where she enjoyed staying active in the various ministries. She loved her Sunday School class and she loved helping prepare food for the families in the church. She was also an active member of the church's Senior Group, which would meet on the second Tuesday of each month. She loved inspirational and gospel music, as well, and enjoyed singing out of the old red Baptist Hymnal. She was loved by everyone who knew her, and she will be dearly missed by all.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her first husband, Mr. Samuel H. Caldwell, Jr. She is also preceded in death by her four sisters and her five brothers.

She is survived by her loving husband of thirty eight years, Mr. Cam LaViolette, who stayed with her at her bedside until her final moments. She is also survived by her two children, Paul (Monica) Caldwell and Pam (Rusty) Thomas; her five grandchildren, Todd (Amy) and Tyler Caldwell, and Trentin (Sam), Camden, and Alora Thomas; her four great-grandchildren, Levi and Kylie Caldwell, Aubrey Winkleman, and Dean Thomas

A Celebration of Life Service to honor and remember Shirley will be conducted on Monday, May 20, 2019, at ten o'clock in the morning in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Clinton Greene officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be the Deacons of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Friends are invited to join the family for a meal at Pine Grove Baptist Church immediately following the service.

Shirley will be laid to rest at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia, at a later date.

The family will receive friends for visitation at the funeral home on Sunday, May 19, 2019, from four o'clock in the afternoon until seven o'clock in the evening.

Friends are cordially invited to visit to leave fond memories of Shirley, as well as condolences and expressions of sympathy for her family.
