The Adairsville baseball team took a nonregion win Monday at home against Armuchee.
Hayden Morrow’s sacrifice fly in the seventh inning proved to be the game winner, giving the Tigers the 6-5 victory.
In the seventh, Lane Griffith walked to lead off the inning and Sam Seaman was hit by a pitch to put two runners on base with no outs. An error on a pickoff attempt allowed each baserunner to move up, and eventually allowed the lead runner to score on Morrow’s flyout to left field.
The game went back and forth early on with Adairsville scoring in the first inning on an RBI single by Seaman, but Armuchee came back with three runs in the bottom of the first. Adairsville then scored two runs in each the second and third innings to take a 5-3 lead.
Two errors and two passed balls helped Adairsville score two in the second. In the third, Seaman walked, stole second base, advanced to third on an error and scored on a sacrifice bunt by Justin Green. Meanwhile, Morrow walked, advanced to third on Green’s bunt and scored on a single by Drake Arp.
The 5-3 lead would not last, though. Armuchee scored two runs in the fifth inning on four singles to tie the score at 5-apiece, where it would stay until Morrow’s game-winning sacrifice fly.
With the win, Adairsville is now 8-6 and will return to region play today against Murray County at Adairsville High.
