Cartersville High’s football team benefited from the short field its defense gave it Friday as the Purple Hurricanes’ offense scored on each of its four first-half possessions to win at Pickens, 27-7, in a Region 7B-AAA game.

In other local football action, Woodland earned its second win of the season at Creekview, 38-21, and Adairsville fell to host Rockmart, 42-24.
