Bartow County Fire Department and Bartow County Sheriff's Office officials were called just before 11 p.m. Saturday to a structure fire on Roth Lane.

According to the incident report, deputies arrived at 310 Roth Lane to find flames coming from behind the apartments on the north side of the roadway. The responding deputy immediately began evacuating residents and having motorists move vehicles. During a sweep of the building, the officer assisted an elderly man from his smoke-filled apartment.

Two witnesses told deputies they attempted to extinguish the blaze, which apparently started when old furniture left on a porch caught fire. Both men said they kicked or pushed the debris off the porch, with one man receiving injuries to his left hand in the process. He was treated at the scene.

Neither reported seeing anyone suspicious around the scene.

BCFD Capt. Colleen Cochran advised that the damage was cosmetic, with four apartments receiving damage.

All individuals were allowed to return to their homes.

Bartow County and Cartersville fire departments reported no other fires in the 24 hours through 7 p.m. Sunday.
