Mr. Thompson was born Jan. 19, 1921, in Bartow County, a son of the late Alonzo David Thompson and Queen Hobbs Thompson.
He was a member of the Raccoon Creek Baptist Church, a naval veteran of World War II and was retired from Spring City Knitting.
Preceded in death by his wife, Eltha Mae Pope Thompson, and a grandson, Michael Dennis Thompson, survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Betsy Thompson and Dennis and Reba Thompson, all of Cartersville; three grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph and Jessica Thompson, David and Maggie Thompson, and Emily Thompson; two great-grandchildren, Reese Thompson and Luke Thompson; a sister, Betty Chapman of Cartersville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Boatfield officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Joseph and David Thompson, Lamar Burt, Terry Elrod, Wayne Fuqua and Buddy Barrett.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.
