Cartersville police Friday released the name and cause of death of a man whose body was found Monday afternoon in a wooded area off U.S. Highway 411.

According to a news release from CPD Chief T.N. Culpepper, the victim was identified as 47-year-old Ricky Lamar Mullinax of Cartersville following an autopsy conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab. Authorities said cardiac arrest caused Mullinax’s death.

Mullinax’s body, which was about 100 yards away from Highway 411 and just north of the U.S. Highway 41 cloverleaf, was found by a homeless person about 3 p.m. Monday. Authorities earlier this week said the body had been there at least 10 days, and its condition made it difficult for authorities on the scene to make a positive identification, necessitating the need to transport the body to the GBI crime lab in Decatur.
