Two Cartersville natives were among the volleyball players named to the Southern States Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for 2010.

Meredith Hardin, a Cass High alum, and Danelle Russell, a Woodland High alum, were joined on the team by their Brenau University teammates -- Kelsey Aley of Tallahassee, Fla., , a junior middle hitter set to graduate in May with a biology degree, and Alexis Arthur of Aiken, S.C., a junior outside hitter majoring in education.

Hardin, a 6-foot-3 senior middle hitter, will graduate with a political science degree in May, while Russell, a 5-foot-9 junior right hitter, is a mass communications major.

"I am so proud of these young ladies and their ability to play volleyball at a high level while maintaining an outstanding record academically," said Meredith Franklin, head coach at the Gainesville school. "We place a high premium on being a true student-athlete in our program and these women have lived that out this year."

Brenau University plays in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics.
