My questions have remained unanswered. Why did GDOT decide not to blast Dobbins Mountain several years ago when they built I-75? If it was the cost, then it would be an insane to spend many millions more to do it during a recession. We are Americans and should be able to vote for or against a project such as the U.S. 411 Connector.
I do agree that we need to do something about traffic. Why can't GDOT fix U.S. 41? A bypass for the trucks would help. Unfortunately, we do not need another road project that will never get finished such as the project on Red Top Mountain. GDOT does not even have the funding to finish it. We have too many road projects that are waiting on funding. We as taxpayers should have a say.
I have gone door to door and attended various events to get the word out. You wouldn't believe how many citizens are still uninformed about this road project. Some are new home buyers just settling down, unaware that they may well be uprooted by this project. Let's all get real; someone has a vendetta or a lot of money invested in the Route D-VE.
The mid-term electoral is over. We should now focus on making Bartow a beautiful place and trying to keep it that way. Putting a major highway through our industrial park, homes, or families' backyards will not keep Bartow beautiful. Again, let's choose the right route (Route G).
The citizens of Rome can continue to drive their two hour commute and just deal with it. It was their choice to live and commute from there. Why should we cater to people who chose to live in a community that requires a two hour commute? The citizens of Cartersville have three exits which is more than enough.
State Route 20 is in the plan to be an evacuation route for the citizens of Cartersville. If Route D-VE route is built, it would be a nightmare trying to evacuate with the unsafe interchange that GDOT engineers have designed. This road is gross waste of tax dollars and environmental resources and it should not be tolerated.
Sincerely,
Pauline Jones
Cartersville
