Team ELITE, a 12-and-under Bartow County softball team, wrapped up its season Nov. 13 with a first-place finish in a Global Sports Authority fastpitch tournament at Terrell Mill Park in Marietta.

After suffering their only loss of the tournament in the championship, Team ELITE bounced back to win, 5-2, in the second game.

Courtney Godfrey pitched four innings, allowing one run, and Taylor Waits made a game-saving throw from left field to home plate to end the fourth inning.

Logan O'Neal of Acworth hit a deep ball to the top of the fence, coming within inches of getting her first home run and also clearing the bases to give Team ELITE a 5-1 lead.

Katie Martin of Cartersville, who had not seen the mound in six months, closed the game to clinch the championship, facing five batters and giving up one run.

"All of the girls played great ball all day, offensively and defensively," coach Ken Godfrey said. "Everyone was able to lay down bunts when needed and was making solid contact when hitting."

In its first game of the day, Team ELITE fell behind by five runs but never gave up and got its bats working to score five runs and end the game with the Bremen Demons in a tie.

Team ELITE then shut out Attack, 9-0, in three innings behind Courtney Godfrey's no-hitter.

Game 3 featured a rematch with the Bremen Demons, which Team ELITE won, 6-4. Godfrey and Waits pitched in the victory.

Waits and Godfrey pitched against Sandy Plains Fire in the fourth game for Team ELITE, a close 4-3 victory that sent it to the championship.
