The purpose of the grant will be to complete Pettit Creek Trail Phase III, with the estimated cost of the project totaling $1,036,000. There will be 1.47 miles of multi-use trail upon completion the Pettit Creek Trail.
Part of this project will be the extension of the downtown sidewalk along Cherokee Street and Mission Road to the intersection of the Pettit Creek Trail.
Greg Anderson, director of Parks and Recreation, said the trail will connect to the baseball complex.
He said the department won't know until early spring or summer if the grant has been approved.
If approved the city is required to match 20 percent, or $207,200, which would be included in a future year budget, City Manger Sam Grove said.
In other council business:
* The general fund and special revenue for 2009-10 needs to be amended. The actual general fund revenue was $42.6 million while the actual expenses totaled only $38.3 million. The council will vote at their next meeting on Dec. 16.
* Edsel Dean has been re-appointed as the city representative on the Bartow Board of Health. His current appointment expires at the end of this month. The new appointment is effective until Dec. 31, 2016.
* The council voted to use Graham Commercial Contractors to repair a wall in the Filter Room of the Water Treatment Plant. The cost is $40,502.
* The sewer on Church Street will be replaced for a cost of $23,441. The clause states that pipe work will be done on nights and weekends, and pavement will be completed during the day.
