Mr. Hartsfield was born in Bartow County, son of the late John Irvin Hartsfield and Ethel Griffin Hartsfield. He was self-employed as owner/operator of H & E Carpet from the 70's until the 90's. Prior to H & E Carpet he was a supervisor at Porter Carpet Mill, Lewis Carpet Mill and Door Carpet. He worked at C W Matthews and was owner/operator of a service station in White, Ga. Mr. Hartsfield was a very giving person; ready and willing to help in any way he could. He was a very loving father and grandfather; thank God he has a place in Heaven. Mr. Hartsfield was in extreme pain most of his life, but never failed to work or help anyone. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. His daughter states, "He was the greatest Dad anyone could ask for. If only I could give as much as he gave me."
Mr. Hartsfield was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by loving wife of 54 years, Christine Cox Hartsfield; a son, Norman Edward Hartsfield; his parents; brothers, Max, John and Tony; sisters, Arlishie, Mary and Gertrude.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Fox Hartsfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Charles Waits; a step daughter and step son-in-law, Mary Ann and Tony Roberts; grandchildren, Jerry Payne, Jimmy Payne, Christy Payne, Brenda Hartsfield; step grandchild, Chris Roberts; a number of great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, David Hartsfield, Ruby Biddy, Charlotte Wooten, Eva Mae Jones and Gladys Johnson; several nieces and nephews also survives.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 7, at 2 p.m. at the Owen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Moore and Rev. Charles Cox officiating. Interment will follow in the Shinall Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
Pallbearers include Jerry Payne, Jimmy Payne, Chris Roberts, Rett Mobley, Vince Cox and Jonathan Doyle.
