Bartow County deputies are investigating two separate incidents of theft at Chattahoochee Technical College on Tuesday.

In the first, a woman said she left her purse somewhere on campus by accident and was unable to locate anyone who may have seen it. According to the complainant, inside the purse was her permanent resident card from Canada, a brown wallet containing $2, a checkbook and several credit cards.

In an unrelated incident, a deputy responded to a call from a campus security officer who said an unknown person stole a gas card out of one of the disabled security vehicles on campus.

The security guard said the person is using the card to illegally purchase gas at the BP on Glade Road. The security guard provided a sheet that showed dates, times and locations when the card was used. He said the card has been used to purchase $553 in gas since Nov. 24.

Two men take advantage of resident's good deed

A Cartersville officer responded to a theft call Tuesday evening at 348 N. Gilmer St.

The complainant stated that she allowed two unknown men who knocked on her door to come in and use her cell phone. She stated that one man was on the phone while the other looked around acting suspicious.

She said that the man went outside on the phone and the other man followed. She said she asked another man who was at her residence to follow the suspects outside to make sure they didn't take the phone but it was too late as the suspects took off running with the phone.

Starcrest employee's purse stolen

An employee at Starcrest of Cartersville called the Cartersville Police Department on Tuesday evening in reference to a stolen wallet. The woman said she left her purse inside her office and didn't notice the wallet was missing until later that evening.

She said the video surveillance system at her job does not work properly and didn't capture anyone going into her office. She described the wallet as black and white with the number 61 on front of it. Inside the wallet was a Chase Bank credit card, Wachovia debit card, checkbook, driver's license and the Social Security cards for herself and daughter.

The complainant said she contacted the bank and credit card provider and was informed that someone had made unauthorized purchases with her cards. One of the purchases was made at Kroger, who said they had video surveillance but would only release it to the police.

Woman's reports fraudulent activity on card

A Bartow County deputy responded to a financial card fraud at 104 Zena Drive in Cartersville. Upon arrival the deputy met with a woman who said she let her son borrow her Discover card two weeks ago to make a purchase. She said she was recently notified by of two online charges from Dec. 4 -- one for $1,035.75 and another for $767.16. She said her son informed her that the card had been stolen but not reported.

Men arrested for shoplifting at Walmart

Two men were arrested for shoplifting at Walmart Tuesday. Kenneth Culver was caught shoplifting around 3:30 p.m. by a loss prevention employee. Later that day Tyrone Martin was also caught shoplifting by the same employee. Both were arrested and charged with theft by shoplifting.
