Saturday's white Christmas is now on record as the first holiday snowfall since 1882. Although the high was slightly above freezing, snow accumulated on the frozen ground to create depths of 2 to 3 inches throughout the metro Atlanta area. In 1993, snow flurries fell across the metro area, but none of the precipitation stuck to the ground.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that there were no serious wrecks, but the day was not silent for others. Bartow County Fire Department, Station 10, responded to a residential fire at 47 Cross Tie Court, Adairsville. Captain Sandy Turner stated that crews have assessed extensive damage to the property, but there were no injuries or other properties involved.

Cartersville City Fire Department had no fires to eliminate and assisted in repairing a fallen power line to quickly restore electricity to a small amount of residents affected. According to jail records and incident reports from the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, the holiday appears to have passed smoothly.

According to the Associated Press, snowfall amounts throughout the state reached 1.2 inches in Atlanta, 2 to 3 inches in the north/north-west metro area, 1 to 2 inches to the south and 5 to 6 and even 7 inches in the north Georgia mountains. Area meteorologists anticipated an additional half inch to an inch of snow in the east and north east of the state as the winter storm moved to the north and north-east throughout Sunday. Today's high, according to weather.com, is expected to reach 35 degrees with the snow melting across affected areas.
