Mr. Mealer was born in Adairsville, June 30, 1934, son of the late Homer and Ruth Belcher Mealer. He was a member of Plainview Baptist Church and was a poultry and livestock farmer. Mr. Mealer was an avid hunter who especially enjoyed hunting quail and raccoon in addition to being a member of the Bartow County 'Coon Hunters Club. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 43 years, Barbara Jackson Mealer and 2 brothers, Ralph and James Mealer.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Danny Mealer of Adairsville and Donnie and Wendy Mealer of Adairsville; five grandchildren, Brandan (Rion) Mealer and Brandy (Rian) Chitwood, and Dakota, Stetson, and Emily Mealer; four great-grandchildren, Jordan and Reagan Chitwood, and Dalton and Trenton Mealer; a brother, Paul (Dordean) Mealer of Adairsville; three sisters, Joyce (Larry) Nicholson, Betty Dilbeck, and Wanda (Larry) Hibberts, all of Calhoun; a brother-in-law, Kenneth (Hilda) Jackson of Adairsville; two sisters-in-law, Shirley (Lonzo) Hicks and Ruby Jackson, both of Adairsville, several nieces and nephews also survive;
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 29, at 2 p.m. from Plainview Baptist Church, Adairsville, with Rev. Larry Hibberts and Rev. Tim Baird officiating. The body will lie-in-state at the church on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment will follow in Eastview cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bruce Mealer, Stetson Mealer, Brandan Mealer, Mike Mealer, Bobby Flemons, Brian Adcock, Richard Hollaran and Talmadge Hollaran; while honorary pallbearers include John Ogle, Wayne Bragg, Dennis Garland, Luke Jones and members of the Bartow County 'Coon Hunters Club.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 p.m. at Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville.
R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, will be in charge of funeral arrangements for Mr. Harold Mealer.
