Joel Wayne “Baby Cakes” Jody Davis was born on Sept. 29, to the late Henrietta Turner Davis and K.P. Davis. He was educated in the Bartow County School System. Joel was a member of Greater New Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor W.J.E.Coombs, where he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior. Joel was an active member of the Men of Destiny Choir.
Jody could light up a room with his smile and the warmest hug that stayed with you. He loved everyone and never met a stranger. He enjoyed working on his cars and the cars of his friends and family.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, K.P. and Henrietta Davis; grandparents, Nellie Mae and Walter Turner; two brothers, K.P. Davis Jr. and John Daryl Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memory, wife Bernadean Davis; two sons, Jody Jr., Malik and George; three daughters, Dorothy Tinsley, Hope, and Zariah; four grandchildren; sisters, Queen Chisum, Esther M. Hardy, Alma Davis, Laura Davis, Willie Mae (Sam) Jiles, Linda Green, Truehelen Davis,and Charlotte (Troy) Johnson; brothers, Franklin (Gwen) Davis, Perry Davis Jr.and Sherman (Lethieia) Davis; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, loved ones and friends.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, at 1 p.m. at the Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Mack Eppinger & Sons Funeral Home.
