According to Lt. Mark Blanton with the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, Todd Alan McBurnett, 37, was initially arrested by officers during a traffic stop. The report said an officer brought McBurnett into the jail and he became unruly during orders to walk through the metal detector.
The officer's reported that McBurnett yelled obscenities before striking him in the lower lip. The officer said McBurnett grabbed the collar of his uniform and would not let go, even as the officer struck him in the stomach. Another officer became involved, giving several commands to stop fighting before he was tased. McBurnett eventually was handcuffed and taken to medical.
He is charged with assault of an officer, fleeing or attempting to elude, terroristic threats, driving under the influence, possession of marijuana, obstruction or hindering law enforcement officers, and speeding.
Cartersville police investigating home burglary
A Cartersville residence was burglarized Tuesday afternoon, according to an officer's report. Two Cartersville police officers responded to 31 Fredda Lane. Once on the scene, they met with the victim who stated he came home from work and noticed a computer was missing.
The officers checked the residence, noticing that a bedroom window was broken and a kitchen window had been tampered with. After speaking with the victim, they were advised that more items were missing, including a flat-screen television, printer, two rifles and a camera. All items were entered into GCIC and the case has been turned over to investigators.
Woman caught stealing jewelry
Target Loss Prevention confiscated $170 in jewelry from a woman who attempted to shoplift it Tuesday night.
A Cartersville police officer arrived on the scene in reference to a shoplifting call. The officer spoke with the loss prevention officer who stated a video captured the offender taking jewelry off the racks and going into the dressing room. The officer said the video also captured the offender randomly placing tags from the jewelry throughout the store before she was stopped at the front entrance and escorted to the security office.
While waiting in the security office, the offender denied taking the jewelry, although another officer spotted the offender taking jewelry from beneath her shirt and placing it in her jacket.
She was placed under arrest and taken to the station for processing.
