To Chief Tommy Culpepper & Sheriff Clark Millsap

Cartersville Police Department & Bartow County Sheriff's Department

My name is Ken Bishop Sr., 10 Valley Drive, Cartersville. My wife and I both live at this address...This past Sunday night, Jan. 9, two days after our 48th anniversary, we were the victims of an armed home invasion...one of your worst nightmares.

Most of the publicity concerning any police department anywhere is almost always negative...However, the general public does not see the dark side of our society that you, the police, deal with every day on a routine basis. I salute you and appreciate you for the work you do in protecting us. Your monetary pay is low, like our school teachers, and yet you put your own lives on the line for us every day...something most of us would not do...

I would like to say the forces of good and evil are still out there and we must do our part in protecting ourselves. This includes never opening your door to anyone, teenagers, old people or middle age that you don't know under any circumstances...freezing rain, snow, cold no matter what their story is...Further, I would like to say that we have a great city and county police department...They caught the bad guys in less than 8 hours. Later, in the day they arrested two more that were involved.

This exemplary work by our police and deputies needs to be recognized by us, the general public, and should be much appreciated by those they protect day in and day out.

In particular, I want to recognize and salute Cpl. Karla Servais, Sgt. Hubert Ledbetter and Capt. Michael Stewart of the Cartersville Police Department, Investigator B. Butler, Lt. J.L. Cheek and Capt. Mark Mayton criminal investigation division and to Bartow County Sheriff's Department deputies. To you, I say humbly, thank you for what you do day in and day out.

Sincerely,

Ken and Andrea Bishop
