The unidentified white male was walking along the rail lines in the area of Pine Street #2 and Old Allatoona Road near Lake Allatoona about 4:45 p.m. when the train hit and killed him, according to Bartow County Coroner Joel Guyton.
The man, who Guyton estimated was between 25 and 30 years of age, was not carrying any form of identification. Officials may be able to take a picture that will allow the family to ID the body, according to the coroner.
There was no information on which direction the train was traveling or where exactly along the tracks the incident took place. Emergency personnel were seen carrying life vests toward the scene, perhaps as a safety precaution due to the close proximity to the lake.
Bartow County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Johnathan Rogers said the department did not have an investigator involved, as the scene was turned over to CSX personnel.
BCSO investigators may become involved later in the investigation, according to Rogers, as it has in past accidents involving CSX lines or trains.
Residents said it is not unusual for people to walk along the tracks in the area and expressed concern that the victim may have been familiar to those who live in the area.
