The Cass High girls basketball team faced off with South Forsyth for the third time this season Saturday at Creekview, with the Lady War Eagles taking the all-important rubber match, 56-46, and bouncing the Lady Colonels from the Region 7-AAAA tournament.

"We were up the whole game until about four minutes to go," Cass coach Jamie Horton said, noting that his team lead by 12 at one point.

South Forsyth, however, began pressuring the Lady Colonels the entire length of the court, which led to Cass' demise.

"We didn't handle it [well], turned the ball over and missed free throws," Horton said. "They hit a couple of back-to-back 3s [and] that was [the] ballgame."

The Lady Colonels coach said freshman Jasmine Estwick led Cass with 14 points and sophomore Carla Clemmons added 12.

Horton said having two young players lead your team in scoring is "good for the future, but not for the present."

"We're just a young team," he added. "We took our lumps this year and, hopefully in the future, we'll grew up a little bit."

Cass finished the year with a 4-20 record, including 2-13 in the region.

The Lady Colonels lost to South Forsyth 48-35 in a region matchup Dec. 11 before defeating the Lady War Eagles 47-38 at holiday tournament at Kell High Dec. 18.
