He was born July 7, 1956, in Rome, son of the late Franklin M. and Ellen Newton Hammonds. Mr. Hammonds attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Plainville and was a veteran of the United States Army having served as a MP. He had been employed as a welder with Advanced Steel Technologies.
Survivors include a wife, Freda LaJuane Conner Hammonds of Rome; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Ruth and Roger Hardman of Martinsburg, W.Va., and Joyce and Steve Cooper of Rome; a nephew, Michael Cooper of Lilburn, also survives.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 18, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Rev. David Ray and Dr. Bill Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery with full military grave rites. Pallbearers will include Rick Holten, Scott McClure, Hector Centenaro, Dan Hovis and Kevin Dunn, and Frank Neale.
The family will receive friends Friday at noon until the funeral hour at Barton Funeral Home.
