Firefighters from the Bartow County Fire Department responded to the area between U.S. 41 and Ga. State Route 293 south of Cartersville for the second time over the weekend just before noon on Sunday. Both north and south bound lanes were closed as police redirected traffic from the first response time around 11:30 a.m. until just after 5 p.m.

According to county fire department officials, embers from Saturday's wildfire were reignited by wind gusts and blown across U.S. 41, rekindling the previous blaze near Crest Automotive.

Saturday's fire was reported by Cimbar as it began with a grass fire whose initial cause has not been determined. The flames gained speed as the surrounding brush also began to burn and the fire traveled across both the north and south bound lanes of U.S. 41 between South Bridge Road and the bridge crossing the Etowah River.

The Georgia Forestry department assisted emergency crews in securing a perimeter with bulldozers to create a dirt packed line. No control burns were conducted as all energy was focused to maintain the major wildfire.

One firefighter was transported to Cartersville Medical Center Saturday due to a minor muscle injury and later released after treatment. No injuries were reported after the second fire was fully controlled and exhausted Sunday.

In addition to the main wildfire, a small grass fire was reported in the Burnt Hickory, Tatum Ridge area. However, this fire was quickly extinguished without causing further damage than the area of initial concern.
