Cass walked the first four batters, giving Adairsville a 1-run lead in the process, then Caleb McCreary cleared the bases with a grand slam home run and just like that the Tigers were up 5-0 in their game Thursday.

Adairsville (2-0) added 6 more runs throughout the night on its way to an 11-4 victory over the Colonels in Tiger Stadium.

The Tigers scored 5 runs in the first, 1 in the second, 3 in the fourth and 2 in the sixth in their evening's work.

Cass scored 2 runs in the fourth -- both on 1-run home run shots -- and then tacked on 2 more in the seventh inning.

"We got beat by a good team tonight," Cass coach Todd Eubanks said. "We tried to come back against Adairsville, and we had our chances offensively but we couldn't push the runs across when we needed them.

"We had the bases loaded in the second but our kids grounded out, then hit into a double play."

He said Cass had other chances but drew the same result.

He said Adairsville capitalized on their chances, however.

"They worked the count in their favor and did the things a good ball club does. We could never catch up and they kept pouring it on. We have some things we've got to fix."

Tiger pitcher Cody Kremer went six innings, notching six strikeouts while giving up two earned runs. Michael Gwin finished for the Tigers at the mound, recording a strikeout and allowing an earned run.

After the Tigers grabbed the big lead, Dalton Parham came in for the Colonels and quieted the uprising and struck out eight but the Cass offense didn't push enough runs across to change the bottom line.

McCreary led the offensive charge for Adairsville, with 5 RBIs on 2 hits, including his home run.

Brandon Blome hit a double and scored 3 runs for the Tigers.

Kremer hit a 2-run shot in the 6th inning for the Tigers, with 3 RBIs.

The Tigers did their damage on five hits and were charged with two errors. Cass recorded 10 hits but were guilty of four errors on the evening.

Dalton Weightman went one out of the park for Cass and Connor Law went 2-for-3 with a home run and a double on the evening. Tyler Gates also went 2-for-3 from the batter's box and recorded a pair of doubles.

Eubanks said he was glad to see the Colonels keep fighting even though things didn't turn around no matter how hard they tried.

"Our kids could have folded after they got that early lead but they stayed and they played," he said.

The victory lifts Adairsville to 2-0 on the season. They return to the diamond Tuesday when they visit Cass (1-1).
